The coronavirus hits Americans hard

Shortages of toilet paper, canned food, hand sanitizer, dog food, and many other houses hold supplies are occurring all over American as people panic as more cases of the coronavirus occurs. The coronavirus is an infectious disease caused by a new virus that hasn’t occurred before. The disease is a respiratory disease that has symptoms such as a cough, fever and in more severe cases, pneumonia.

In Missouri alone, there has been 1 to 5 cases, 2 in Greene county. The death toll has reached 6,500 worldwide, there have been 169,300 cases with 77,200 of those cases recoveries. The states that have the highest number of reported cases are Washington, California, and New York with 201 to 500 cases reported.

The CDC reports that the virus spreads through the air since it is a respiratory virus so it can be spread to people within 6 feet of each other and when a person coughs or sneezes. The best way to prevent it is for people to clean their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Also using hand sanitizer that has 60% alcohol. People should resist touching their faces with unsanitized hands.

When people get sick the CDC advises that people stay home except to receive medical care and stay away from others to limit the spread of the virus. The symptoms of the virus include fever, shortness of breath, and cough. The virus is very similar to the flu except, unlike the flu, the symptoms may take 2 to 14 days to appear.

People should disinfect surfaces in their houses using bleach, alcohol solutions, and other common EPA-registered household disinfectants. Surfaces that people should disinfect include tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
